A man loses a lover of sixteen years. He was not allowed at the service because it was just for family. His grief know no bounds and this film talks about the one day he decided to let go of the past completely. Colin Firth has done the script great justice and I can’t find fault at all with his acting. In his recent interview he said he liked a role with few lines, which is the case for this role as George. The silence makes each gaze, each glance, each inbreath all the more meaningful and deliberate. The artistry involved in playing out this character is immense. I think Colin Firth well deserves all his awards.
This is the first movie I’ve watched this year that get all full 5 stars from me (in my little secret list). There is something incredible about this show that makes me feel like someone has cut a hole in me and ripped my guts out. It’s heartrending and yet at the same time heartwarming, particularly in the flashback scenes. Little snippets that show that their love is true, little snippets that share their secret lives with the audience. Some bits are cliche, but well-executed. The movie ended in a bitter irony that killed me. Yet it felt that it can only end that way. So profound and beautiful.
I particularly like one line George says when Charlie (played by Julianne Moore) doubts the relationship between him and Jim. Charlie askes if the “thing” with Jim was a replacement for a “real relationship” and George replies that Jim does not replace anything, and nothing will replace Jim [not verbatim]. That’s something, isn’t it? Moments like this we ask ourselves who are we to judge what others deem to be real. Food for thought, food for thought.
On a lighter note, did I mention that there are THREE hotties in the film? Not one, not two, THREE of them. Two from the UK and one from Spain. One of them is Jim, who also played Ozymandias in The Watchmen. Just go to IMDB and surf around [and ogle if you wish].

If this touches your heart (and we all know you have a heart of steel), then I must watch this! =)
Gee, now my heart of steel is some sort of litmus test.
And come on, we all know you're more piqued by the 3 HOTTIES than anything else, eh? :P
