Devil Brownies

Last bake of 2009 – unabashedly Devil’s Brownies. This is also known as the if-you-haven’t-lost-your-voice-and-gain-2-pounds-at-Christmas-and-you-need-help brownies. If there is anything with that sinful amount of sugar, chocolate and butter and yet is still good for your soul, this has got to be it. It should have been a Christmas bake, something so warm and fuzzy. Scrap that – this is a good bake for any day.

I baked these brownies for the countdown party at XJ’s place later. Unlike their cloying, too-sweet heavy cousins, these babies are delightfully light, fluffy and you find that you can’t just stop at one. I used dark chocolate chips to achieve the fudgy effect; (I hope) you can see some molten chocolate peeking out on the top slice.

Cutting them up

You’re right if you’re doubting how I manage to cut them up, dust them with icing sugar and take pictures at the same time without popping pieces into my mouth. Fortunately I am not in a very chocolatey mood. (Say what? Blasphemy!)

More shots of the chocolate goodness

Baking this filled my house with a decadent chocolate aroma. I stood by the oven and watched the 9×13 inch brownie bake to perfection. Yummy. If you want the recipe, get it from Buns in My Oven. I didn’t put in as much chocolate chips because I simply ran out of them and I was too darn lazy to go and get more. If you put in that amount of chocolate chips, I’m sure it’d be far more fudgy.

A little digression – looking at these pictures of my brownies makes me fall in love with my camera all over again. This has been happening a lot of late; it seems that each time my mind and heart strays, my camera, instead of attempting to divorce me, attempts to win my love back by producing winning shots. Is this true love or what?
