Since Christmas is just round the corner, this means breaking out the cookie cutters and baking gingerbread as part of festive pigging out. This year I attempted something exciting – building a gingerbread house and icing my gingerbread.
To build a gingerbread house I had to first cut out and bake the requisite flat pieces and assemble them with icing as glue. So I drew the model on a piece of paper, cut my rolled dough with knife, the whole shebang and put it into the oven. This is what I got.
Seasoned builders will immediately note the problem with my house – I have the correct front facade but I forgot about the back of the house. Yes, I have my roofs, and my side walls but I conveniently just cute a square piece for my back wall, which should in fact be the same shape as my facade. What does this mean? My roof has no support. Of course I didn’t have fancy architecture like beams and arches. I considered making buttresses as well to ensure the house didn’t collapse, but I felt that was a little overdoing it.
So, my roof collapsed. Too many times for me to want to recall. So instead of a house I got a Middle Eastern desert hovel with a flat roof but a Western house facade. How charming. The hovel aside, I made the usual gingerbread people too.
There are gingerbread boys and girls and Christmas trees. See the gingerbread boy with green eyes? I called that “Jealousy”, since jealousy is a green-eyed monster. And the gingerbread girl in the pink bikini is my favourite. Here’s a close up shot of her pink goodness:
How utterly adorable she is, complete with pink hair and glassy look.
And in a parting shot, Merry Christmas in advance, and do remember that Christmas is my blogiversary, so play nice.
It seems that the colour combination of the facade of my house is more Halloween, but who cares. :P

That's so freaking cool! I wanna make one just looking at it haha!
Go do it! Don't just say you want to make and not make it …
But if you do, especially for the house, please remember to make 2 pieces of the one with the triangular roof. HAHA.
omg! your gingerbread girl in the bikini is too cute! *applauds*
Hahaha, you're not the only one to think that. Everyone is highly amused.
I like the gingerbread girl's pink slippers! =P
WTF the slippers??? LOL.
