Jack Neo and his Casting Couch

I’m so inundated with news about Jack Neo the philanderer that I have to voice my stand.

Of course, I do not approve of what he did. My mum is of the opinion that since it takes two to clap, the girl(s) have to be equally responsible as well, and she/they (since it’s unclear how many he DID bed successfully) should not blame him. I disagree.

There’s the concept of The Casting Couch. If someone has to bed the director to land a role,  it’s like paying to work, paying for awards, etc. No real talent is needed, only goods for exchange. That in principle is everything but meritocracy. I know I shouldn’t be so hung up on such a abstract concept, but isn’t it something we all want to believe exists in this world? Well, I digress.

In claiming that it’s okay for a person in a position of power (aka Director) to bait someone in a position of non-power (aka an actress wannabe), it’s tantamous to saying it’s then okay for a teacher to withhold grades from students until they sleep with him/her. So bullshit to people who think he’s not in the wrong, or that it’s natural for it happen. You’re just reproducing power and subjugation our society doesn’t need. Shame to you.
