The opening act was abysmal.
Who in the right mind let this stupid angmoh saunter into local theatre to dig at local women? Making false claims of SQ stewardess, putting up the wrong accents to make fun of the minority races, insulting CJC female students … this guy and his director has got nerves, and that’s all they’ve got. No sense of humour, no sense of propreity, and no sense of respect for women. Let’s not even talk about looks or brains. From the bottom of my heart, I saw no reason why those comments should be made, and how stereotyping and objectifying women can garner laughters from the audience. The feedback form asked if we think Sarong Party Boy should be developed into a full play. My take? That was the worst ten minutes I have ever spent in a theatre . I have seen not-funny acts, but this is beyond not-funny.
Anyway, the play. Apart from being really short, I guess the only redeeming factor is the set. The set was detailed and realistic. The acting? Barely passable. The script? Some good devices, not-bad in-line character development, but just lacking a certain something. Can’t pinpoint on it, but just this sense of unbeknownst emptiness. I know it’s not entirely to do with length, but it just lacks a certain thought-worthiness. It’s a pure entertainment piece, I suppose. Or perhaps our dearest Sarong Party Boy has ruined it for us. What a pity, I guess.

the writer not angmoh leh…he’s eurasian. and life gave it quite a good review. :P
No la, I was talking about the angmoh from the opening act, Sarong Party Boy. So atrocious.
Anyway, I recall distinctly that one Life review mentioning something about not requiring much think, and not deep. Not sure of the exact wordings, but equates to frivolous and airy I guess. And I’m already not a person with atas taste when it comes to Theatre, so this MUST be really bad.
