Modern Peking Duck

I was at Vivocity the other day and I spotted this new food stall at B2, near Giant supermarket that sells Peking Duck and Roasted Pig. I find it a real good idea to sell Peking Duck as snacks; usually you can only get it at restaurants and it’s considerably pricey because you can’t just order a small portion.

This stall sells 5 pieces in a box for $6. It’s expensive for street snacks, but bear in mind Peking Duck used to be royal delicacy! (I think.) The roasted duck is sliced on the spot, and rolled in with cucumber and sweet sauce and rolled in crepes.

Likewise the pig is sliced on the spot. I love how Chinese people hang up animal carcasses (yes, cooked, but still) in their full glory complete with a face. I call this real meat assurance. With Western food, particularly fast food, you can never be sure if your fish grew in fillet form in a crazy mutant factory somewhere in Area 51. (49? 22?)

They are wrapped in pretty boxes. So I bought a box of each home. It is taste! Despite the long bus ride home, the roasted skins on the duck and pig are still crunchy. Even though it’s a little expensive for snack food, I think it’s worth a try. Not for daily consumption, definitely.
