New eyewear

I made new spectacles yesterday. I was at Tampines One (amazing heartland shopping mall I tell ya) and I saw this spectacles shop having a promotion – frames and lens for $99 and collection within half an hour. So I tried on the frames and picked one I like. It’s half-frame, where the top is metal and the bottom is frameless. That seems to be the trend these years. The arms of the frame have this lattice design in metal and coated with transparent plastic so it’s quite pretty. Here’s a picture of it:

I had to test my eye for the lens, and to my surprise, it seems that the degree of my short-sightedness descreased. Not by a lot, just 0.25 on each side. Perhaps the previous eye test wasn’t accurate, or this one isn’t. But I felt that this time round it was more professional. You know sometimes they show you this red and green screen and ask you to pick out which is the sharper clearer one? I never really got it until yesterday. It was only yesterday that the difference were perceivable. That could mean I have astigmatism, but it was one eye test that I felt like I knew what I was doing. Only one thing unnerving – the optometrist kept interjecting “good” after my answers; I felt like I was sitting for a real examination and I got the answer correct. It feels the same way when I play Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook – the voice would comment “good” and “excellent” as though I were looking for his approval.

Anyway, perhaps I’m a roll or high on something today I bought a pair of expensive sunglasses. By expensive I mean something not from the pasar malam. My friend and I were window-shopping at the Duty Free Store on Scotts and I saw this really nice pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs shades that I like. It felt very me, as with most aviator shades. The price was reasonable – not ridiculously expensive like Dior but not cheap like Aldo. Yet it was the last piece left and I just didn’t feel like getting the display piece. So I left the store disappointed. Later, we were at Takashimaya and I was in Watsons replenishing my face cream when I spied a corner set up by the Spectacle Hut selling some shades. I gravitated towards there and saw that they were selling the pair I wanted from DFS. The sticker price is $20 more than DFS, but somehow they were having a sale and I was given a discount making the final price $30 cheaper than DFS. Imagine my delight. So I bought it. And I know you’d want pictures:

The case.

I love aviator shades. These are tinted blue-grey.

Wheee!

I must have been insane to splurge on these shades, especially when I am supposed to be splurging on a new handphone soon. My stipend is dwindling faster than it should. :(

Ya it’s not brown lens. It’s the blue-grey kind that makes the room look cool coloured. Next time I wear loh. :D

Tampines One 3rd Floor I think. They’ve got stands outside their shop displaying the range for the $99. They apparently have branches in East Point, Singapore Post Centre, but I’m not sure if those have the offer too.
