On making a statement

I was at the Esplanade Waterfront area on March 27th at Earth Hour. I took my dSLR out for a spin (without a tripod- shame on me). There were many people at the same place, and there was even a concert going on. I looked around me and I can’t help but wonder the extent people would go to make a statement. To make a statement about saving the environment, hundreds of people burnt fancy candles that required more energy to produce than if they were at home. People drove to the Esplanade (though we saw many cyclists). The concert tent and microphones, and let’s not forgetting the petrol used to transport their equipment from wherever they were.

It’s situations like these I felt a pang. Is Earth Hour JUST a gesture? What else will they do to save the earth, if the earth needs saving in the first place? [I believe that one day Mother Earth will get pissed off enough and boot us out - she doesn't need us to save her]

Those who care are already doing it; those who don't, you can never convince.
Still I believe the best way to protect the environment is STOP HAVING SO MANY FRIGGIN' CHILDREN. If Earth had less people, we'll definitely consume less, right? Hehehe. Operation Depopulation.
