So on a wet Wednesday morning I got dragged out by a few friends to go to Rider’s Cafe at the Saddle Club. We took a cab in from Bukit Timah Road, for it was raining, and that the place was in the middle of nowhere. See, it’s a saddle club with horses and stables. When it rains, the ground gets wet. And when the rain stops, water evaporates, so you can quite imagine the smell there. I prefer to think I was visiting a 15th century village in Oxfordshire. Or the zoo.

We were seated at the balcony overlooking the stable. So we caught sight of horses making their rounds. Quite refreshing actually.
The buffalo wings were really bloody hot. You can choose the degree of heat ranging from mild to bloody hot. WM and Ann went for bloody hot; I didn’t dare partake because I tasted a drop of the sauce and cried for mercy. This is not for the faint-hearted.
I had ravioli. The gorgonzola cheese in the ravioli was surprising not as pungent as other blue cheeses. This suggests that perhaps it’s mixed with other cheese. The cream sauce was a nice touch, but the herb did not come through. Overall this was a tasty dish but not exactly a must-have.
WM had the crabmeat pasta in white wine saunce. The crabmeat looked plentiful, but not exactly the succulent type I expected. I didn’t try their food, but this looked good enough.
The sandwich looks so FEH I don’t know where to begin criticising it.
Grilled ocean fish. ‘Nuff said. You can’t really go too wrong with this.
We had dessert. The dessert were all good.
The caramel top was thick and nicely burnt. I had some fun cracking it (a la Amelie Poulin). The custard was too eggy for my liking, but I think those who like their custard rich and eggy will love this.
This cheesecake is very rich and creamy and yet not overly rich. There’s something in the cheesecake that puts it at that delicate balance between rich and light which confuses me, really. The strawberry syrup was a mistake though; it’s so artificial.
This confused me. I ordered strawberry shortcake expecting spongecake layers with cream and strawberry, I wound up getting a trifle with cookies. There was no sponge, there was only hard cookies and crumbs with some strawberry and fresh cream. The cream is so fresh I can taste the buttery taste which gets a little sickening actually. But somehow after I stirred and mixed up everything it was good. Not strawberry shortcake but an interesting trifle-like dessert. They should change the name, really.
This is the piece de resistance I tell ya. Warm dark gooey chocolate fudge ladled over thick rich chocolate cake with no remorse. Couple with a scoop of ice cream made from vanilla beans, this dessert will champion any psychiatrist and therapist. I would go back to that godforsaken place just for this. The serving is huge so it feeds 2 or more easily. This is the best chocolate cake dessert I have ever had. Truly.
So if you drive, you might want to check out this place. Even if it’s just for the chocolate cake. For more information, go to their official website here: http://www.riderscafe.sg/
