That was a mouthful, the name.
I picked up this new line of nail polish by Sally Hansen yesterday. It claims that only one coat is needed, and it dries in 60 seconds. I had to try for myself if it is true.
I picked the shade Uptempo Plum; it;s a deep plum purple with red and purple shimmer.
There is 0.31 fl. oz or 9.17ml of product in the bottle, slightly less if you compare it other brands such as OPI and China Glaze. However, if it is true to what it claims – that only one coat is needed, then the product will go a longer way than normal polishes which require two or more coats.
The brush is thicker and firmer than other brands, which i suspect is why only one coat is required. It fans out just nice for all my four fingers, but I require two brush strokes for my thumb for optimum coverage. The firm brush makes it much easier to apply the lacquer; it helps mitigate shakey hands and imprecise left hand for right handers. However, for those with slimmer nails especially on the pinky, more care is required in order not to get lacquer on the fleshy bits of the finger.
Is it true that only one coat is required? For nails of normal length, yes, but for longer nails, it might not be so. Look at the picture on the right; it is clear that it got slightly sheer when it got to the end of my nails. However, it could also be because out of habit I take off excess lacquer from the brush by stroking it against the mouth of the bottle before I applied. I believe if I didn’t do that, there would be more than enough product to cover my nails in one coat.
Does it really dry in 60 seconds? Yes. It dries significantly quicker than regular polishes, discounting your base coat and top coat. If your top coat is not quick-drying, then it will take a while longer. However, this also means product in the bottle might dry up fairly easily if you leave the bottle open too long. I also won’t know how the product will react to lacquer thinners, so use with prudence.
Will I purchase this again? Absolutely for the convenience.
