Wild Honey

I went for brunch (or really, lunch for me) with Sarah at Wild Honey. I’ve heard raves about this place and how packed it is usually during weekends. The prospect of all-day breakfast intrigue me; I like breakfast food, but I don’t enjoy waiting till 10am to having it with my friends (sorry KL) on weekends. So breakfast for lunch sounds like a good plan! Besides, we’re not talking about cereal and oatmeal here.

The quaint thing about the menu at Wild Honey is how they give names using countries/cultures like Gallic, Italian, European … you get the drift. After staring at the chalkboard for a while, I decided on the Mexican and Sarah had the European.

The Mexican, $18

The Mexican is a burrito (surprise, surprise) with potatoes, beans, scrambled eggs served with salsa, guacamole and sour cream. TexMex burritos always have a place in my heart, so I felt really drawn to this. This dish is vegetarian. The burrito tastes great, especially with the chunky guacamole and sour cream. For those who like spicy condiments, the salsa is your thing. There is a kick to it!

The European, $18

The European is Eggs Benedict on toast, with proscuitto and field mushrooms. I am not a fan of proscuitto (or other kinds of Spanish hams) but I did taste the mushrooms. They are sauteed and juicy, and the Hollandais sauce tastes great. This is great for ham lovers.

Wild Honey, as per its namesake, serves drinks made with honey. I am not a fan of honey, but I decided to try one of their specialty drink called the Nature’s Remedy.

Nature's Remedy, $6

This drink is made with honey, vanilla and a full stick of cinnamon. It is best served warm, as recommended by the owner. I like cinnamon, that’s why I picked this drink despite the honey content. It tastes hearty and somewhat therapeutic, as suggested by its name. The cinnamon stick is best used as a stirrer to get more of its flavour released into the drink. I even tried using it as a straw, but that’s a little hardcore. My only complaint about this drink – far too sweet. I don’t have a sweet tooth, but I think even sweet lovers will find this too cloyingly sweet.

I quite like the decor at this place, but I found it a little too dark, hence bad for photography. I had to amp up my ISO (for I detest flash).

There are sugar cubes and pepper grind at each table. Few places in Singapore serve sugar cubes (blame the weather), so I thought this is real cute.

Overall, I might return to Wild Honey to try out the other items off the menu.
