So we get to the end of another year. Same old; new year’s resolutions never fail to make me feel underachieved, despite all I have done to survive the whole year. It’s like buying a child ice-cream and toys and all the candies in the world, but the moment you say “eat that spinach” all the previous gifts are forgotten and all eyes are on how you bully the little kid. Not fun at all. Underachievement aside, I think this year has been good. I had fun writing my honours thesis, maybe I didn’t “pwned the world” (Su, 2009a) but I still had as much fun as I could writing and researching it. I graduated not bad, travelled, got accepted into grad school, and I made new friends and reconnected with old ones. I got into Twitter and now I tweet @tanxingjian and @mezzogal06 much more than I speak to the other honours class people. :P
I met my reading target once again, and I grew my hair long(er). I wouldn’t call this a year of epochal shifts despite graduating simply because I am still in school. For the rest, of course it’s a year of more changes compared to the past 3 or 4. However, it’s been an interesting year considering the things that happened. Some things I gained, some things I lost, most of which I am glad for.
What does the new year hold for me? I might hazard a guess that there’ll be more excitement, more room for self-development, more need for independence and determination, more writing. There are some specific aims I want to achieve particularly pertaining to my studies, and there are some non-specific life goals I have in mind.
Morose end-of-year reflections aside, time for some lists:
Top 5 Novels
- World Without End, Ken Follett
- The Millennium trilogy, Stieg Larsson
- Julie & Julia, Julie Powell
- Burning Bright, Tracy Chevalier
- His Dark Material Trilogy, Philip Pullman
Top 5 Movies
- The Watchmen
- The Reader
- Milk
- Taking Woodstock
- Tied: Up and Duplicity
Top 3 Bakes/Dishes
And thus concludes my year-end reflections for 2009. New year rambling comes tomorrow.

Happy New Year to you too!!!
if you look back on 2009, what will you remember most?
for me it was my trip to bangkok. :) for 2010 it will be singapore and hong kong! well, that is the plan with my shopping buddy lah hehe.
If I look back on 2009, recent events nonewithstanding, the most memorable will have to be my USA trip, followed by I guess my graduation.
Good! Come to Singapore in 2010 for Great Singapore Sale! (End May to End July I think)
